Red Light Therapy Protocol
Red and near-infrared light (630-850nm) penetrates tissues and is absorbed by mitochondria, enhancing ATP production and cellular function. This protocol focuses on brain health applications including improved cerebral blood flow, reduced neuroinflammation, and enhanced cognitive function.
Expected Outcome
Improved cerebral blood flow, reduced inflammation markers
How to Do It
Choose appropriate wavelengths
Use devices with red (630-660nm) and near-infrared (810-850nm) LEDs. Near-infrared penetrates deeper for brain effects.
Device selectionPosition 6-12 inches from treatment area
Distance affects intensity. Closer for skin, slightly further for deeper tissue penetration.
SetupSession duration: 10-20 minutes
Start with 10 minutes and increase gradually. Overdoing can cause temporary fatigue.
During sessionFor brain health: Target forehead and scalp
Use transcranial photobiomodulation devices (like Vielight) or position panel near forehead.
Brain-focused sessionsPractice 4-5 sessions per week
Consistency matters more than session length. Morning use may enhance alertness.
Weekly scheduleResearch Evidence
This protocol is based on 2 peer-reviewed studies. Click any link to verify the research on PubMed.
